Cyber Humanum Est (CHE) is a leading immersive university wargame in cybersecurity, led by the ID+ Lorraine Foundation and the University of Lorraine. For the 2027 edition, more than 100 students from 8 university departments will spend three days in a full-scale cyber crisis. Mines Nancy, a partner school of the project, hosts two key moments once the exercise is over.
What is Cyber Humanum Est?
CHE puts students in front of a simulated cyberattack and its consequences. Teams must defend, analyze, decide and communicate. The exercise relies on:
- 100+ participating students;
- 8 university departments;
- 3 days of cyber warfare, after 1 year of preparation;
- 50+ people involved;
- 300+ target machines.
The Université de technologie de Troyes joins as a guest this year with 10 of its students. The project is backed by institutional partners (University of Lorraine, French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, Ministry of the Armed Forces, Comcyber, ANSSI, Lorraine INP, Greater Nancy Metropolis, City of Nancy…) and by 2027 partners such as EXEGOL, Id Verde, CEA – PEPR and EPIEOS.
2027 Edition Schedule
- 8 October 2026: KickOff at IUT Nancy-Brabois (Villers-lès-Nancy).
- 1–3 February 2027: the exercise at Polytech Nancy (Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy).
- 4 February 2027: debrief at Mines Nancy (3:30 pm – 7:00 pm), followed by the VIP gala.
- 5 February 2027: awards ceremony and careers forum at Mines Nancy (9:00 am – 5:30 pm).
At Mines Nancy: Analyze, Reward, Recruit
The debrief (4 February). After the exercise, participants, supervisors and partners review the three days together: decisions made, vulnerabilities exploited, crisis management best practices. This is where the wargame turns into lasting learning.
The awards ceremony and careers forum (5 February). The day recognizes the top-performing teams and connects students with companies, institutions and organizations active in cybersecurity. It gives future graduates direct access to recruiters in the field.
Both events take place on the Artem Campus (92 rue du Sergent Blandan, Nancy), where Mines Nancy trains more than 850 students of 30+ nationalities alongside ENSAD Nancy and ICN Business School, a pioneering approach to cross-disciplinary education since the 2000s.
Why Cybersecurity at Mines Nancy?
Engineers trained at Mines Nancy, particularly in computer science, industrial engineering and design engineering, will face cyber risks in industrial, energy and digital systems. Taking part in an event like CHE links scientific training to the reality of a crisis.
