On July 1–2, 2026, Nancy will become a hub for geoscience research as it hosts the 2nd Active Faults Workshop (Journées Failles Actives), a national scientific conference dedicated to the study of geological faults, whether active or inactive.
Organized by CRPG and GeoRessources, both members of the OTELO network at the Université de Lorraine, the event will take place at the École des Mines de Nancy on the Artem campus.

A national scientific meeting on geological faults
The aim of this conference is to bring together the scientific community and professionals working on faults in France, across all disciplines.
Over two days, researchers, faculty members, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, engineers, and technical staff will exchange on recent advances in a wide range of fields:
- mechanics and rheology
- geodynamics
- seismology and paleoseismology
- fault dating (U-Pb, etc.)
- petrography
- geodesy (GNSS, InSAR)
- structural geology
- strain quantification
- fluid–rock interactions
Scientific presentations and discussion sessions
The Active Faults Workshop will include:
- oral presentations and poster sessions
- plenary sessions and round-table discussions
- dedicated time for exchange and collaboration
Participants are invited to submit an abstract upon registration in order to present their work. Oral presentations by PhD students and postdoctoral researchers are particularly encouraged.
A program structured around key geoscience challenges
The program will be organized around several major themes:
Wednesday, July 1, 2026
- Geology and geochemistry
- Experimental and numerical modeling
- Poster sessions and scientific discussions
- Dinner (optional)
Thursday, July 2, 2026
- Geodesy
- Seismology
- Hazards
- Closing discussions
Expertise from leading specialists
Several researchers will contribute to thematic sessions:
- Gaétan Milesi
- Agathe Julien-Sicre
- Laétitia Le Pourhiet
- Laura Airaghi
- Estelle Neyrinck
- Paul Cupillard
- Jorge Jara
A scientific event at the heart of Nancy
By hosting this event at Mines Nancy on the Artem campus, Nancy further strengthens its role as a dynamic academic and scientific hub in the field of geosciences.
This conference offers a valuable opportunity to foster dialogue between disciplines, methods, and approaches, while encouraging the development of new collaborations at the national level.
