The entrepreneurship programme at Mines Nancy
This programme focused on the spirit of entrepreneurship aims to catalyse the actions carried out or supported by our students involved in entrepreneurship within the school. Mines Nancy is a player in the Startup Nation, and this programme enables students to achieve their ambitions to create businesses and to develop this mindset by giving them an experience as close to reality as possible and in the best possible conditions. Students who take this pathway will gain the tools and support they need to get started, equipped for the task through projects such as startup creation, and able to bring these dynamics into their future businesses.
The Spirit of Entrepreneurship programme is an opportunity for students to devote themselves to an entrepreneurial project, in a leadership or participatory role, by becoming a student entrepreneur.
It is an educational activity involving a small-group project that aims to support and supervise entrepreneurial projects put forward by Mines Nancy students or possibly partners.
This selective programme is similar and parallel to the Research, Industry or ARTEM pathways. Candidates are selected based on their motivation. Second-year students thus do not have an automatic right to take part; the programme requires agreement with the Director of Studies.
As well as the two half-days a week in the timetable throughout the year, similar to the ARTEM, Industrial or Research pathways, commitment will be expected on the scale of what would be required of a business creator and their team in exchange for the support of the school and its ecosystem. These formal slots are essentially used to regularly review progress with project management and to plan trips, for example.
The programme enables students to gain entrepreneurship experience while remaining within the framework of their studies, without the two priorities coming into conflict.
Students will thus develop their skills, either by putting forward entrepreneurial projects of their own or by becoming involved with existing projects (primarily those proposed by other student entrepreneurs, but also by alumni, teachers or people associated with the school) in a spirit of innovation and initiative.
To help these projects succeed, as well as providing conventional or theoretical training on entrepreneurship or interpreneurship, we will support participation in a number of activities such as hackathons, business creation contests, trade fairs related to students’ projects. Depending on what is needed, this may involve calling on very specific coaching, allowing students to travel to meet prospects or, conversely, to welcome them at Mines Nancy if necessary, and making resources available for the development of their business (PoC, communication, legal advice, etc.). The aim is to be as responsive as possible.
The theme of the project is chosen by the student in consultation with the school through one or more coaches or supervising teachers.
In addition, students will enrol in PEEL-type schemes and obtain student entrepreneur status.
