On September 2 and 3, 2026, Mines Nancy will host the 5th edition of Academia Stands for Green Deal, an international conference dedicated to the major challenges of the ecological and digital transitions. For two days, researchers, industry representatives, students and institutional stakeholders will come together on the Artem campus in Nancy to share knowledge, exchange perspectives and explore concrete solutions for a more sustainable future.

How can we reconcile the energy transition, access to critical resources, technological innovation and sustainable development?
These interconnected challenges require collaboration across disciplines, sectors and national borders.
This is the ambition behind Academia Stands for Green Deal: creating a space for dialogue and cooperation between higher education and research institutions, businesses, industry and stakeholders committed to advancing the ecological and digital transitions.
Since its launch in 2022, the international conference, hosted by Mines Nancy, has established itself as a forum for sharing scientific knowledge, exchanging best practices and developing new collaborative initiatives in support of the European Green Deal.
A 5th edition focused on the key challenges of transition
The 2026 edition will address some of the most pressing issues shaping our future, including critical raw materials and their geopolitical implications, energy system decarbonisation, circular economy, sustainable materials and responsible digital technologies.
The conference aims to go beyond discussion by encouraging interdisciplinary exchanges and fostering concrete cooperation between research, education, innovation and socio-economic stakeholders.
This year’s edition is notably co-organised with three interdisciplinary programmes of the Université de Lorraine’s Initiative of Excellence: CIRSET, focusing on circular economy, sustainable resources and critical raw materials; TRANSITION, dedicated to energy, decarbonisation and sustainable territories; and MAT-PULSE, exploring materials, physics and more sustainable digital technologies.
Two days to exchange, experiment and collaborate
Beyond keynote presentations and round-table discussions, Academia Stands for Green Deal 2026 will offer interactive formats designed to encourage participation, dialogue and collaboration.
The first day, on September 2, will feature plenary sessions, round tables and networking opportunities. The following day will focus on participatory experiences addressing some of the key challenges of sustainable transition.
Among the highlights of the programme is a Student Challenge focused on managing a critical raw materials crisis, as well as an interactive exhibition exploring the essential role of metals and minerals in the energy transition.
Students, researchers and professionals will be invited to step into the role of a European strategic task force faced with a potential disruption in the supply of critical raw materials — a scenario combining scientific expertise, strategic thinking, teamwork and decision-making.
