Nancy at the Heart of International Cybercrime Challenges

From June 29 to July 3, 2026, Mines Nancy will host the first edition of the Cybercriminology Summer School on the Artem campus. This international and interdisciplinary summer school is dedicated to the study of cybercrime, online violence, and digital criminal ecosystems.

Bringing together researchers and experts from a wide range of disciplines, this major scientific event will welcome PhD candidates, early-career researchers, advanced master’s students, and professionals to explore today’s most pressing challenges related to digital technologies, cybersecurity, and emerging forms of online crime.

An Interdisciplinary Approach to Cybercriminology

At the intersection of criminology, computer science, law, sociology, and cybersecurity studies, the Cybercriminology Summer School stands out for its strongly interdisciplinary perspective.

Its objective is to deepen understanding of the evolving nature of cyber threats and to analyze the social, economic, political, and human impacts of criminal activities in digital environments.

Over five days, participants will explore the key theoretical, methodological, and operational dimensions of cybercrime through lectures, scientific discussions, and experience-sharing sessions led by internationally recognized experts.

An International Program Bridging Research and Societal Challenges

The program will address a range of topics, including:

  • Mapping and understanding cyber threats;
  • Cybercrime analysis and governance methodologies;
  • Online violence and digital victimization;
  • Criminal infrastructures and surveillance challenges;
  • Digital markets and future trends in cybercrime.

Throughout the week, internationally renowned experts from academia, government agencies, and operational organizations will contribute to the program. Speakers will include researchers from the University of Montreal, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Lausanne, as well as representatives from the French Ministry of the Interior and organizations specializing in combating online violence.

A Summer School Embedded in the University of Lorraine’s Cybersecurity Ecosystem

This summer school is fully aligned with the cybersecurity ecosystem developed in Nancy and within the University of Lorraine, internationally recognized for its scientific and technological expertise in the field.

Nancy offers a particularly dynamic environment for cybersecurity, cyber defense, and digital risk analysis, supported by leading research laboratories such as LORIA and BETA, engineering schools including Mines Nancy and Télécom Nancy, and numerous national and European research initiatives.

The Summer School also strengthens collaboration between academic research, public institutions, and industry practitioners at a time when digital security and technology-related challenges are becoming increasingly central to society.

Mines Nancy: Advancing Education and Innovation in Cybersecurity

By hosting this international event, Mines Nancy further demonstrates its commitment to addressing strategic challenges related to digital technologies, cybersecurity, and technological transformation.

For several years, the school has been developing educational programs and research initiatives in cybersecurity, notably through the Mastère Spécialisé® “Cybersecurity: Attack and Defense of Information Systems”, jointly delivered with Télécom Nancy and currently undergoing a comprehensive redesign.

This commitment reflects a broader ambition: to educate engineers capable of understanding not only the technological dimensions of digital challenges but also their human and societal implications.

An International Summer School Open to the World

Delivered entirely in English, the Cybercriminology Summer School aims to foster exchanges among international scientific communities while creating a platform for dialogue across disciplines, academic cultures, and professional practices.

The event is supported by the Horizon Europe ENSEMBLE project, the DefMal project within the French PEPR Cybersecurity program, and several partners from the University of Lorraine, the CNRS, and Inria.

With this inaugural edition, Nancy further strengthens its position as a leading academic and scientific hub for cybersecurity, cybercrime research, and digital risk analysis.
