Mines Nancy is pleased to announce the appointment of Frédéric Sur as the new Director of Studies. A full professor in computer science, researcher at the Loria – Lorraine Research Laboratory in Computer Science and its Applications, and a long-standing faculty member at Mines Nancy for nearly twenty years, he now takes on a key role in shaping the school’s educational programs.

Frédéric Sur, Director of Studies at Mines Nancy since October 1, 2025
An alumnus of the École Normale Supérieure, agrégé in mathematics, holder of the DEA MVA, and PhD in applied mathematics from Université Paris-Dauphine, Frédéric Sur has devoted his career to teaching and research in computer science. His expertise lies particularly in digital image analysis and processing, machine learning, and multidisciplinary applications.
He began his career at Mines Nancy in 2006, where he served as Associate Professor until 2018. After seven years at IUT Nancy-Charlemagne, where he headed the Multimedia and Internet Professions Department from 2021 to 2025, he returned to the Artem campus of Mines Nancy at the start of the 2025 academic year.
As Director of Studies, Frédéric Sur will oversee the ongoing adaptation and evolution of the school’s curricula to prepare future engineers to meet major scientific, technological, and societal challenges, in a context shaped by digital, energy, and environmental transitions.
“My goal is to continue adapting Mines Nancy’s educational offer to train young engineers who will be active participants in the transformations of our time. By receiving top-level academic and technological training, they will be equipped to help reshape our society within a ‘finite world’ and respond to the challenges of the digital, energy, and environmental transitions,” says Frédéric Sur.
